As per HRM Directive 518, this employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit in Gjoa Haven only.
Reporting to the Manager, Continuing Care Centre the Housekeeper is responsible to provide general housekeeping, laundry and linen services to ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the facility to improve appearance and reduce the risk of infection.
The Housekeeper is responsible for the day-to-day housekeeping and laundry services of the facility. These services are provided for the patients, and other workers as assigned. This position has a direct impact on the public’s eye on cleanliness, appearance and overall health of the facility that requires variable shifts on weekends and statutory holidays as the facility operates on a 24/7 basis year-round.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are most acquired through completion of Grade 8 and one year of housekeeping experience. WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) training, basic housekeeping and cooking skills, basic English – spoken and written, maturity – sense of responsibility and confidentiality, ability to follow strict infection prevention and control protocols, and a willingness to be flexible are also requirements.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French.
Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset to assist in positive communication with staff and residents especially with the incorporation of Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, and English.
A Class 5 Driver’s license and one year of housekeeping and /or laundry experience in a commercial or institutional setting are also assets.
Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is a beneficial attribute to this position.
Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
