Your role
The Environmental Assessment Analyst leads internal reviews of development applications and participates in various resource planning processes with a team of EA Analysts and colleagues in and outside the department. The EA Analyst identifies potential adverse effects of proposed projects; ensures departmental interests are considered in decision-making processes; evaluates proposed mitigative measures, and provides recommendations as required. The incumbent may also conduct site visits and represent the department on various committees and working groups related to environmental and resource management.

Essential Qualifications
Degree in Environmental Sciences/Management, Environmental Assessment, Biology, Ecology or a related discipline;
Public or private sector experience evaluating proponent led project proposals, including researching and evaluating technical data and drafting environment assessment reports and recommendations;
Demonstrated experience applying environmental assessment theories, practices and principles toward reviews of land, resource and industrial development proposals;
Experience working collaboratively with government agencies including First Nation governments, industry, consultants, and non-government organizations in an environmental assessment context; and,
Knowledge of consultation and engagement requirements acquired through professional experience.
ASSETS
Experience participating in reviews of resource development projects and general knowledge of land and resource management in the context of territorial legislation and policy, and alongside First Nation governments; and
Experience with project management or spatial mapping software such as ArcGIS to analyze information or create maps;

Proven ability to effectively manage time, priorities and a changing workload under prescribed deadlines;
Exceptional writing and analytical skills, and the ability to manage significant amounts of data and information;
Ability to interpret legislation and regulatory processes to inform decision making; and
Knowledge of environmental issues, including climate change, cumulative effects assessment, and an understanding of current EA best practices.
Additional Information:
Conditions of Employment: Valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent)
Job Requirements: Occasional travel within the Yukon to remote locations in a variety of weather and field conditions. Occasional travel outside the territory.
